Situation: Nokkeaw a high school student, is at the library of the Thammasat University to get a book for her assignment.
Librarian: Hello. What can I do for you?
Nokkeaw: 6. ________ Er … it’s a history book about India.
Librarian: 7. ________
Nokkeaw: Yes, it’s India in the Gupta Dynasty. 8.________
Librarian: Of course. We have 2 copies on the top shelf there. 9. ________
Nokkeaw: All right. Well, I’m not a student here. Can I check out the book?
Librarian: 10. ________ But you can ask a friend studying at this university
to borrow it for you.
ข้อ 5 I’m afraid that it’s not possible. (ฉันเกรงว่ามันจะเป็นไปไม่ได้) นกแก้วแจ้งต่อบรรณารักษ์ว่าเธอไม่ใช่นักศึกษาของที่นี่ และถามว่าเธอจะยืมหนังสือได้ไปไหม ซึ่งบรรณารักษ์ก็ตอบกลับมาในประโยคช่องว่างนี้ แล้วต่อท้ายด้วยว่า “แต่เธอสามารถขอให้เพื่อนเธอที่เรียนที่มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งนี้ยืมให้เธอได้นะ” ซึ่งชัดเจนมากว่า บรรณารักษ์ต้องตอบนกแก้วว่า “ยืมไม่ได้” ซึ่งก็คือตัวเลือกที่ 5 นั่นเอง
