Conditional Sentences
Conditional sentences คือประโยคเงื่อนไข ประกอบไปด้วยสองส่วนหลักๆ คือ if clause และ main clause โดยจะเอาส่วนไหนขึ้นก่อนก็ได้
มีอยู่ห้ารูปแบบคือ
1. การสมมุติที่เป็นจริงเสมอ ส่วนหน้าและส่วนหลังของประโยคสอดคล้องกัน ไปด้วยกันเสมอ
If + present simple, present simple // present simple if + present simple
Ex. If you heat water, it boils.
2. การสมมุติ หรือคาดการณ์อนาคต
If + present simple, future simple // future simple if + present simple
Ex. If you work hard, you will pass the test.
3. คาดผลลัพธ์จากปัจจุบัน (เงื่อนไขขัดกับความเป็นจริงในปัจจุบัน)
If + past simple tense, subject + would/could/might + have + v.3
Ex. If you worked hard, you would have passed the test.
4. รำพึงถึงอดีต ด้วยความเสียดาย (เงื่อนไขขัดกับความเป็นจริงในอดีต)
If + past perfect, subject + would/could/might + have + v.3
Ex. If I had known your father a little better, I would have not married him.
5. สมมุติสิ่งที่เป็นไปไม่ได้
If + subject + were, subject + would/could/might + v.1
Ex. If I were a bird, I would fly to heaven.
