Black sheep หรือแปลตรงตัวว่า แกะดำ ซึ่งทุกคนอาจจะคุ้นกันดีอยู่แล้วจากสำนวนภาษาไทยที่เราก็ใช้กัน หมายความถึง คนที่ไม่เข้าพวก ไม่ทำตามกฏเกณฑ์ของสังคม หรือพวกแปลกแยกจากกลุ่ม ทำนองว่าไม่อ่านกรุ๊ปไลน์ อะไรประมาณนี้ค่ะ
Ex. He is a black sheep of the family because he is an singer amongst whole doctor’s family.
Golden opportunities สำนวนนี้ แปลได้ว่า นาทีทอง หรือ โอกาสงาม ๆ มาถึงแล้ว ไม่คว้าไว้คงไม่ได้

White lie หรือการโกหกที่หวังดี หรือมีเจตนาที่ไม่อยากให้อีกฝ่ายเสียใจ

Green thumb หรือคนที่มือเย็น ปลูกอะไรก็ขึ้นได้อย่างง่ายดาย

Grey area หรือสถานการณ์ กฏเกณฑ์บางอย่างที่มีความไม่ชัดเจนเต็มที่ หรือคลุมเครือในบางจุด
Ex. This piece of job is definitely a grey area, we don’t’ really know which department should responsible for it.
To be yellow/ Have a yellow หรือคือขี้ขลาดตาขาว หน้าซีด (ฝรั่งมองว่าหน้าเหลือง) นั่นเอง

Have a blue/Feel blue ถ้าเรามีสีฟ้า มันจะหมายถึง อาการเศร้าสร้อย เซื่องซึม

Tickled pink แปลว่ามีความสุขมาก รู้สึกดีใจหรือยินดีกับอะไรบางอย่างสุดๆ
Ex. I am so tickled pink to hear your voice, it’s been such a long time we didn’t hear from each other.
Born with a silver spoon in one’s mouth เปรียบง่ายๆกับสำนวนไทย ว่าคาบช้อนเงินช้อนทองมาเกิด (ฝรั่งจะบอกแค่ ช้อนเงิน) หรือแปลว่าเด็กที่เกิดมาในครอบครัวที่มีฐานะดี เติบโตมาอย่างสุขสบายไม่ยากลำบากอะไร
Ex. Such a fortunate boy! He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he has never worked before in his life.
Green light แปลตรงตัวก็คือไฟเขียว หรือความหมายนัยๆ ณ ที่นี่ก็คือ การให้ไฟเขียวใครบางคน ก็คือการอนุญาตหรืออนุมัติให้ใครบางคนทำอะไรได้
Ex. I’ve been waiting for my boss to give me a green light before submitting an order.
Red-eye หรือ Red eye คำนี้น่าสนใจมาก และเหมาะกับผู้ที่ชอบเดินทางท่องเที่ยว หรือ ทำงานแนวเลขาที่ต้องจองตั๋วเครื่องบินให้นายบ่อยๆ จะแปลได้ว่า เที่ยวบินกลางคืน (ที่มักออกเดินทางหลังเที่ยวคืน) และไปถึงที่หมายในอีกวันหนึ่ง นึกภาพว่า ถ้าเราต้องนอนบนเครื่องบินไปทั้งคืน ที่ไม่ค่อยสบายเท่าไหร่นัก ตื่นมาเราก็คงตาแดงๆ ตามสำนวนเลย

Once in a blue moon จะแปลได้ว่า นานๆ ที หรือที่ซึ่งไม่ได้เกิดบ่อยๆ
Ex. I get to see my relative living in other province once in a blue moon.
สำนวนนี้มีความหมายเดียวกับ Once in a while ที่เพื่อนๆ อาจจะคุ้นเคยกันแล้วค่ะ
Out of the blue หมายถึง ที่เกิดขึ้นอย่างไม่คาดคิดและกะทันหัน
Ex. Today, out of the blue, she made an announcement that she will resign effective the end of the month.
Brown someone off คือการทำให้ใครบางคนโกรธ โมโหมาก
Ex. Seems like you get browned off with him messing with you all the time.

Chasing Rainbows จบท้ายสำนวนกันด้วย สีเจ็ดสีกันไปเลยค่ะ กับสำนวนที่เกี่ยวกับรุ้ง ที่มีความหมายว่า วิ่งไล่ตาม หรือพยายามทำอะไรที่เป็นไปไม่ได้ หรือเรียกว่าเพ้อฝัน
