Direct Speech หรือ Quoted Speech คือ การยกประโยคของผู้ที่พูดมาทั้งหมด โดยไม่ได้ดัดแปลงแก้ไข ซึ่งประโยคเหล่านี้จะต้องอยู่ในเครื่องหมายคำพูด (quotation) เช่น
He said, “I love you.”
She said, “I can’t find a job.”
“What’s wrong, Officer?” I asked.
“My brother is a student,” said Anna.
Indirect Speech หรือ Reported Speech คือ การนำประโยคคำพูดของคนอื่นมาพูดใหม่ให้เป็นประโยคของเราเอง เช่น
He said he loved me.
She said that she couldn’t find a job.
กฎการเปลี่ยนจาก Direct Speech มาเป็น Indirect Speech
1. เปลี่ยน Tense
มีหลักการง่ายๆ คือ เปลี่ยนให้เป็นอดีตมากขึ้น
