คราวนี้เรามาเรียนภาษาอังกฤษจาก quotes ที่เลือกมาจากกนังชื่อ "Contagion" กันดีกว่า ศัพท์ส่วนใหญ่จะเกี่ยวกับอาการและก็โรคที่เกิดจากการติดเชื้อ

ประเดิมคำแรกด้วยชื่อของหนังเรื่องนี้ก่อนเลย "contagion" (n.) หมายถึง การติดต่อของโรค,โรคติดต่อ

 ส่วน contagious เป็น adj. แปลว่า ที่แพร่กระจายด้วยการสัมผัส

contagious disease  ก็เลยแปลว่า โรคติดต่อทางสัมผัส

ในเรื่องนี้จะมีการพูดถึง โรคระบาด (epidemic) และการแพร่เชื้อ (transmission)

- jet lag (n.) = อาการอ่อนเพลียจากการเดินทางด้วยเครื่องบินเป็นเวลานาน

- get some rest = นอนพักผ่อน

Roger: I got a medical question. Uh...my kids have been...uh, having problems at school. Attention deficit thing.

Dr. Ellis Cheever: A-D-H-D?

Roger: Yeah.

Dr. Ellis Cheever: He been diagnosed yet?

- ADHD  ชื่อเต็มคือ Attention deficit hyperactivity disease หมายถึง โรคสมาธิสั้น

- diagnose = (ได'อักโนส) v. วินิจฉัย,ตรวจโรค,วิเคราะห์

Alan Krumwiede: They don't know. Maybe Minamata disease, you know, from mercury in the fish. They've been outbreaks in the past. Fishing industries suppresses it, industrial disease. 

- Minamata disease เป็นชื่อโรคที่เกิดจากพิษจากสารปรอทที่สะสมในร่างกาย ค้นพบครั้งแรกที่เมืองมินามาตะ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น

- mercury ในที่นี้ก็คือ สารปรอท (ไม่ได้หมายถึงดาวพุธ)

- outbreak  = การระบาดของโรค

ER Nurse #1: Does she have a history of seizures?

Mitch Emhoff: No! No! No!

ER Nurse #1: Allergies? Other medical problems?

Mitch Emhoff: Uh...she's...I think she's allergic to penicillin.

 

- seizure = ลมชัก  (นางพยาบาลถามว่าเคยมีประวัติของโรคลมชักมั้ย)

- allergy = อาการแพ้, โรคภูมิแพ้

Note:  การใช้ allergic กับ allergy   (แพ้ .....)

 allergic to --> be allergic to .....

เช่น   I think she's allergic to penicillin.

         I am allergic to pollen. (แพ้ละอองเกสรดอกไม้)

allergy --> have an allergy to ....

 เช่น  I have an allergy to milk.

- door knob =  ลูกบิดประตู

- elevator = ลิฟท์

- fomite =  วัตถุที่เป็นพาหะนำเชื้อโรค 

Mitch Emhoff: If I'm immune, can't you use my blood to cure this?

- immune (adj.) = มีภูมิคุ้มกันโรค

- immunity (n.) =  มิคุ้มกันโรค

- immune system (n.) = ระบบภูมิคุ้มกันโรค

Dr. Erin Mears: Dr. Cheever, I think I'm sick.

Dr. Ellis Cheever: What? What's going on? What...what kind of symptoms do you have?

Dr. Erin Mears: I can't swallow, severe headache.

- symptom (n.)  =  อาการ

- swallow (v.) = กลืน

- severe (adj.) =  รุนแรง
