พอจะนึกได้ไหมว่า คำว่าเบื่อในภาษาอังกฤษมีคำว่าอะไรบ้าง? 

เชื่อว่าคำแรกๆที่เรานึกถึงก็คือคำว่า "bored"!

• bored (adj.)  แปลว่า รู้สึกเบื่อ (I'm bored) อย่าจำสับสนกับคำว่า boring เพราะถ้าพูดว่า I'm boring จะกลายเป็นว่า ตัวเราน่ะที่น่าเบื่อ!

- I'm bored

- The movie is boring.

ทีนี้ ถ้าเราจะพูดว่า "เบื่อกับ ..." จะใช้ preposition อะไรไปต่อท้ายคำว่า bored?

คำตอบก็คือ "bored with" ดูเหมือนจะเป็นอะไรที่ง่ายๆ แต่เป็นคำที่คนใช้ผิดกันเยอะทีเดียว คือไปใช้คำว่า "bored of" 

- I'm bored with my job.

• tired (ad.)  นอกจากแปลว่าเหนื่อยแล้ว ก็ยังแปลว่า เบื่อได้ค่ะ 

คำว่า tired นี้เองแหละ ที่เราจะใช้กับคำว่า "of" เป็น "tired of ...."

- I'm tired of the same old sandwiches.

• fed up (adj.)  อันนี้แปลว่า เบื่อหน่าย เอือมระอา หรือเซ็งก็ได้

preposition ที่ใช้คือ with = fed up with ...

- I'm fed up with your conduct. 

- I resigned because I was fed up.

• sick (adj.)

preposition ที่ใช้คือ of = sick of ...

-  I am sick of her excuses.

- I'm sick of hearing it.

• bored to death  (phrase)

อันนี้ใกล้เคียงกับภาษาไทยที่ว่า เบื่อจะตาย!

 - It went on for hours – we were all bored to death!
