S + is/am/are + V~ing

 

Present Continuous Tense หรือ Present Progressive Tense ใช้ในกรณีต่อไปนี้

1. กำลังทำหรือกำลังเกิดขึ้นขณะที่พูด เช่น

I am working.

They are sitting in the garden now.

He’s laughing.

Don’t go out now! It’s raining.

Hurry up! The bus is coming.

Please be quiet! I’m studying.

The living cost in Bangkok is going higher and higher.

 

*เหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้น 2 เหตุการณ์พร้อมกัน มักใช้กับคำเชื่อม while, whereas, at the same time เช่น

While Jennifer is watching YouTube, Lucy is talking on the phone.

(ในขณะที่เจนนิเฟอร์กำลังดูยูทูป, ลูซี่ก็กำลังคุยโทรศัพท์อยู่)

 

2. ทำเป็นประจำในช่วงระยะเวลาใดเวลาหนึ่ง เช่น

This semester I am studying at British Council.

 

3. พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่พัฒนาขึ้น เช่น

His English is progressing.

 

4. ใช้ในความหมายของกำหนดการหรือแผนการในอนาคต เช่น

He is getting married next month.

 

5. ใช้กับเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นบ่อยๆ ซ้ำๆ ซากๆ จนน่าเบื่อ เช่น

He is always asking the same questions.

 

ตัวอย่างรูปประโยค

ประโยคบอกเล่า

    S + is/am/are + V~ing

    S + ’s/’m/’re + V~ing

It’s snowing now.

    The children are doing their homework.

    She’s wearing a hat.

    We’re having dinner now.

    He’s waiting for a bus.

 

ประโยคปฏิเสธ

ประโยคบอกเล่ามี V.to be อยู่แล้ว เราสามารถเปลี่ยนให้เป็นประโยคปฏิเสธได้โดยการเติม not หลัง V.to be ดังนี้

    S + is/am/are + not + V~ing

    S + ’s/’m/’re + not + V~ing

 

They are not playing in the park.

    You’re not listening to me.

    It’s not raining.

    I’m not wearing shoes.

 

ประโยคคำถาม    

ประโยคบอกเล่ามี V.to be อยู่แล้ว เมื่อเปลี่ยนเป็นประโยคคำถามให้เอา V.to be ขึ้นต้นประโยคได้เลย และเรียงลำดับคำ ดังนี้

    is/am/are + S + V~ing    

Are you listening to me?

    Is she working today?

    Is it raining?

 

*คำถามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วย V.to be นั้นถือเป็น Yes/No Question ดังนั้นต้องตอบด้วย yes หรือ no เท่านั้น เช่น

    Are you going now?     Yes, I am.

    Is it snowing outside?     No, it isn’t.

    

ในกรณีที่ถามด้วย Question words ให้ขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วยคำแสดงคำถาม Wh~ แล้วตามด้วย V.to be ตามโครงสร้างประโยคคำถาม ดังนี้

    Wh~ + is/am/are + S + V~ing

What are you doing?

Who are you waiting for?

Where’s she going?

Why are you crying?

 

*ไม่ว่าจะเป็นประโยคแบบใด กริยาในรูป Continuous นั้นจะต้องผันให้อยู่ในรูป V~ing เสมอ
