Interest นั้น เป็นได้ทั้ง Noun และ Verb ซึ่งมีความหมายและการใช้ที่ต่างกันดังนี้
Interest (N) แปลว่า ความสนใจในบางสิ่งบางอย่าง ความอยากรู้อยากเห็น ความดึงดูด
Ex. I lost track of my interest to this TV show when it’s getting more intense.
Interest (V) แปลว่า ทำให้สนใจ
Ex. The comedian failed to interest me throughout his show.
มาถึงคู่คำที่มักสับสนกันบ่อยๆ นั่นก็คือ interesting and interested ทั้งสองคำเป็น Adj ทั้งคู่แต่มีความหมายและวิธีการใช้งานต่างกันค่ะ
Interesting (Adj.) น่าสนใจ น่าดึงดูดใจ จำง่ายๆ เลยคือ “น่า” สนใจ
Ex. This is interesting news (ข่าวที่น่าสนใจ), we should read more in details.
Ex. The kids learn several interesting facts (ข้อเท็จจริงที่น่าสนใจ) about global warming at schools
Interested (Adj.) รู้สึกสนใจ และอยากเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับบางสิ่งบางอย่างเพิ่มเติม จำง่ายๆเลยคือ มีความ “รู้สึก” สนใจ และมีข้อสังเกตคือ ประธานที่ใข้กับ interested มักจะคือผู้คนนั่นเองค่ะ
Ex. If you are interested in the job (รู้สึกสนใจในงานนี้), you should apply.
Ex. Any interested employee (พนักงานที่รู้สึกสนใจในการประชุมนี้) should register to this forum
