Butter หมายถึง เนย แต่เมื่ออยู่ในสำนวนภาษาอังกฤษจะแปลได้หลากหลายความหมายดังนี้


Butter up = ประจบประแจง

Ex. Tom is trying to butter up his new boss.
(ทอมพยายามประจบประแจงเจ้านายใหม่ของเขา)


Butter wouldn’t melt in one’s mouth = ตีหน้าซื่อ

Ex. Susan looked as if butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth and lied to me.
(ซูซานตีหน้าซื่อและโกหกฉัน)


To be a butterfingers = คนที่ซุ่มซ่าม

Ex. The boy was a butterfingers when he visited his grandmother.
(เด็กชายซุ่มซ่ามมากตอนที่เขาไปเยี่ยมคุณยายของเขา)


Bread and butter = รายได้หลัก

Ex. Tourism is the bread and butter of our country.
